Tossing Books???

I, for the life of me will never understand tossing. I mean what does that say about your business? Please let us know your thoughts on this practice. Great you've weighed in, I suppose if it works for you that's good, if not move on and try something else. Perhaps your location has something to do with success or failure.

I personally haven't done any tossing.... I do think it is impersonal... I am a very shy person, so it does seem like the easy way out, but it just doesn't suit me. I get my name out through word of mouth. I get involved with many community events (set up tables, do drawings, etc) I also have businesses that I leave books at each campaign.

Have you seen the three new discussions on tossing on the forums?

I think the person you toss too, is just as likely to buy from you as if you'd hung it on their door. I'm not able to go out with two toddlers during normal hours (yea it's more difficult than you'd imagine to walk very far with a 3yr old and 1 year old) so I have to do this at night and I just don't feel comfortable going up to someone's door late at night.

I enjoy taking my children in the evening and tossing about 400 books and I usually get several customers from doing this but I don't do this all the time. I also enjoy walking door to door and handing out brochures with samples of our prefered demo products.

I have never "throw" a book. I have walked around my neighborhood and placed books on front porch mats. I didn't get a single call.

I don't toss unless I get a phone number so that I can follow up in a few days. I'm really direct, and probably 20% of the people I ask say no...but I always call, and I always ask for referrals.

Hi,

Everyone has opinions about tossing, but bottomline - does it work? I am not convinced. I love Avon, but I would chose to buy from the rep who offers service. I never bought from someone who left me a book, I bought when someone knew an Avon lady and that person gave me samples with my order and did a great job! My friend just joined Avon again with 400 books to hand out - some were given in person - would you like a book, some left on cars. Her first order was only 1 person that she did not know already who happened to get her book. That alot of money for 400 books. Better to make up the clear bags with samples and a ribbon and offer an Avon goody bag and give to a receptionist at a company, a friend, neighbor, etc. Personalized, thoughtful, professional. Toss is like any other flyer I get in the mail.
